December 30th, 2013 Weekly Email

So, I have a lot of stuff to say, and I want to address it all, so, this may be a bit of a long email. Let's begin.

It was really fun to see you guys on Tuesday. It was probably the best Christmas present I've gotten, wait...it was the only Christmas present I've gotten...for now.

Speaking of which: Mom, next Monday I'm going shopping for some new shirts, heads up! I don't think I'll need anything else, but if I think of something I'll let you know.

The lunch appointments were really good. The food is nice, super healthy. So, yeah, they went good. Had a lot of good food, and good conversation, so yeah.

One of our investigators and his family came to the baptism that we held on Wednesday, which made me super happy. We met with them on Thursday, and had a great lesson on the Word of Wisdom, and figured out what we needed to do to help him really start thinking about baptism, and we fixed one tiny thing with his prayers. He would just say "Amen." Fixed that so he says and understands why we say "In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

What was really awesome is that in that meeting, we asked them to share some of their talents and abilities with us. When we got to the Dad, he said he didn't have any talents, but his son, literally told us all the talents that his Dad has. That was super inspiring to see a son helping to build his father's confidence.

Then, probably my highlight of the week, was the fact that all of them came to Church! I was so happy and excited for them. It's been something we've been pushing for for a long time now, and to see them do so was such an amazing thing for me.

Things are going good in general as well. I'm really happy about things, and I'm excited about what the future brings.

I HATE THESE ITALIAN COMPUTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I wanted to express my frustration with how these computers never run the way I need them to. So, where was I...oh yes...The Hobbit.

Seems like it was really fun. I can't wait to get home and watch them all. It seems that all things are going to be really awesome. Can't wait to see what happens next (keep me up to date).

 (Jay asked the question in our email to Anziano Eads that he has been asked by several ward members and local leaders on if Anziano Eads and his mission have been working with technology as was outlined by the Church. This is Nathan's reply):

Dad: We'll be getting the iPads and Facebook sometime in spring or next summer at maximum. We don't have the exact dates yet, so I'll let you know. Right now, I'm just as in the dark as you are.

Merry Christmas 2013

We talked with Nathan this morning on Christmas Eve.  What a wonderful day! He is great, working, studying, serving and enjoying his experience.  In his apartment is one of his MTC companions which he enjoys.  Overall, he is still Nathan, just older, wiser and far more confident in himself.  We'll post the video so those in the family can watch it.  He told us that he has had so many spiritual experiences that confirm to him that he is exactly where he needs to be at this time in his life.  So why does he serve? Why do we give him willingly to 2 years where we only have actual contact with him on Christmas and Mother's Day, so his focus is on his work?  These two video's share why Anziano Eads is doing what he is doing.

For me, this video, reflects the Spirit of what Anziano Eads is doing and learning in Italy. These Saints truly understand the meaning of service and love that reflects the true Spirit of Christmas.  Merry Christmas everyone.

The Other Wise Man

We offer to those who follow Nathan's blog a gift of a story this year for Christmas. It's a story that we feel that Nathan is on, we are on, and most of us are on. If you have never read or if it's been awhile, our family favorite Christmas story is The Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke.  Here is a link to the story in Classic Reader as it tells the story, travels and search of the fourth wise man, Artaban as he goes to search for the Savior with his gifts of three stones, a sapphire, a ruby, and a marvelous pearl.  These were his gifts to the Savior but instead, he finds  that in his search for Savior, well, he finds its not the physical gifts that lead him to the Savior, its how he lived his life and uses the skills and gifts he has in behalf of others that lead him to the Savior. Please read the story.  It is wonderful.  Merry Christmas.

Anziano Eads becomes the "Star" Bari Specialized Training Pictures Dec 2013

Missionaries in the LDS Church do a variety of things on their missions. They spend their time sharing our beliefs with others and inviting them to come unto Christ and be baptized. They also provide service and attend trainings. Sister Waddoups on her blog at this link shares that missionaries also receive specialized training on a on-going basis to help them. You also need to know that a LDS Mission is a geographic area, divided into zones and each zone has a missionary called to be a leader over that zone. There are also Sister Training Leaders also in the zone that work in that capacity with the female missionaries. The Zone Leader's job is to still be a missionary but to also help those missionaries in their zones and provide training through a variety of ways.  Sister Waddoups explains it better than I can so I'll quote her here:

"The approved agenda is to hold a Zone Conference in each zone once a quarter or every other transfer and then to hold Specialized Training every other transfer or once a quarter.  This transfer we are doing Specialized Training.  It's the first time we have used the current format and were anxious to see how it turns out, but we were pleased.  Instead of meeting 5 or 6 hours like we do at Zone Conference, the meeting is only two hours long.  The goal is to not have any missionary travel more than 2 hours each way.  Because of the vast area our mission covers, it isn't always possible to do that, but we try whenever possible to accomplish the goal.

The agenda for Specialized Training is decided by the Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders in each zone.  They are the ones who are really in tune with the needs of the missionaries in their zones.  We are there to help them in anyway we can.  The Zone Leaders do most of the teaching with the assistance of Sister Training Leaders and District Leaders.  Sometimes we are asked to teach a certain section or answer questions.  This time around we asked for 30 minutes to do a special presentation.

President Waddoups and I centered our adestramento (teaching) on the importance of teaching how simple the gospel is.  Most investigators are very childlike in their knowledge of religious teachings.

3 Nephi 9:22

"Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God.  Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved."

We dressed the missionaries up in simple costumes and re-enacted the story of the birth of Christ just like they do in primary so we could help them understand how they can teach simply and still have the spirit with them in abundance.

Weekly Email December 16th 2013

"Have yourself, a Merry little Christmas!"

Yup, you can count down the days for our Skype, because I have no idea as of yet. We're working on it, and we'll talk about it at the next DDM. Either way, I'll let you know ASAP. (We have permission to email to set up the calls so I'll let you know.) Hopefully we can get things figured out.

Does not sound like GMA is doing so well. Well, what happens will happen. Ain't nothing we can do to stop it. I'm sure she'll find that in the Spirit World she is free of all pain and can bless and help others like she loves to do.

Yes, I got the PIN code, and I deleted the email right after. That was a hard thing to do, since I like to keep the emails, but meh. Life goes on. Card works, that's what's important. I'm probably going to go buy my new shirts today, and an electric razor. I'll explain that in a bit.

YEAH SEATTLE!!!!!!! (I really only add these because I know it annoys Dad).

YOU WENT TO THE WARD CHRISTMAS PARTY?!?!?!?!??! Wow, miracles do happen. That's amazing. Glad you went.

So, as for the electric razor: I've been getting really bad razor burn lately, and I want to try and see if that helps. If not, then I'm screwed. I'll talk to President about it if it gets bad, but as for right now, I've adopted a wait and see approach.

My week was good. We had the daughter of one of our investigating family's come to church, so that is a miracle in and of itself. I was really content.

We've made progress with our less-actives. We're going to be teaching one of them from the very beginning, lesson one and up, and the other, the same thing.

Yup, things are great. As for the bad day comment: I never view any day as bad, just an experience to grow. I don't view things negatively (at least too much) anymore. The only time I feel depressed is when I look in the mirror and see all the grey hairs!

Weekly Email December 9th, 2013

"Happy Holidays!!!!! Happy Holidays!!!!! May the merry bells keep bringing, happy holidays, to you!"

Or something like that I can't remember the lyrics anymore. In fact, I can't remember anything anymore! Who are you people again?

Okay, so I'm going to get this out of the way right now: things haven't changed too much since last week. This week we just could not seem to get schedules with our investigators lined up with ours, and we hardly saw any of them. It's saddening, but this week, we're going to be pushing a little bit harder to meet them. It's Christmas. I want them to feel the love of our Savior.

I'm going to be doing some family home evenings this season with them, with desserts and the like. Also, for English Course, on the 19th, we're probably going to be having a Christmas Party, and for that...I think "Santa" (or Bobbo Natale in Italy) will be making a visit (I'm glad I still have a bit of a gut, and I've had tons of practice from watching Dad).

So to buisness: Seattle is going all the way this year baby! It sucks they lost to the Niners, but I'm glad Dad is a little happy (THE CURSE!!!!), so whatever. SEATTLE!!!

I'm glad that the house is now all Christmasy, and I'm rather pleased that Dad put up my ornaments, although he should've let you help out. Still, I thank him for the pictures that he sent. I miss that house. The new french doors look amazing! SNOW!!! I miss snow!!!!

You all will have a white christmas, I'm still thinking that I'll get a green Christmas. I hope not. A white christmas will be nice . . .

Glad to know that things are good at home. As for me and things;

I'm probably going to buy new shirts for sure, socks are actually lasting. That lifetime guarentee is holding for now. I was planning on getting my pants tailored, since they are all in a good condition, maybe the summer pants are a little sweaty still, but I think they're okay (KIDDING!).

I'm glad I need new clothes as well. I'm still dropping in weight, and I'm changing my diet to some healthier items, so I'll probably keep dropping. I'm just hoping I don't start the bounce back soon (when you lose a lot of weight too quickly, it can come back).

Anyways, yes, I've learned to make Italian food.

I don't have bad days anymore.

Weekly Email December 2nd 2013

First thing's first:

THANK YOU MUM!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!! Seriously, where would I be without you to save me!

I'm glad to know that you were super busy on Thanksgiving. It makes me happy to know that nothing has changed overtly much than when I was there last year. I will admit, it was rather strange not having a Thanksgiving celebration. Oh well, no big deal.

I'm glad that Grandma was happy with the blog print-outs. Sorry she was in pain and wasn't enjoying herself, but hey, life.

CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is all.

So Bro. Christensen is the new primary director huh? That's cool. I know he'll do a good job. Yeah, sounds like Sunday was busy. I'm glad you told Bishop that I am a full tithe payer, because I am!

Tell my sister I say congratulations on her new job!

I will let you know once we have things figured out about Skyping on Christmas. I promise, but with six of us in the city, and only having the church computers (two) it'll be difficult.

Movies: We'll talk as a group and we'll figure something out (they can watch two movies or one movie twice from an approved list).

Here's how the weeks been: Really good.

Alessandra: She's been reading, praying, and working....a lot. She wants to come to church, but with her work schedule, it makes it difficult, but we've had inspiration hit, and we've come up with a plan and a lesson to help with this. We're going to share Elder Dube's talk from this last conference, and let her know that even though things may seem difficult, and you can't see the road ahead, you need to keep moving forward.

Really that's about the only investigator we've seen this week, as the family of one of our investigators wasn't well physically, and had to change the appointment, and so he couldn't meet with us. But here's his situation:

Pietro: Same as last week, but I had a revelation this morning once again. We're really going to ask him what kind of an answer he's looking for, and then we're going to share some scriptures with him relating to how the Lord answers our questions. Some thing I've done with him that I've seen work, is I pray to know what he needs to hear, and then open a copy of the Book of Mormon I keep on my desk. I open it to a random page, and read it. It's helped me out in the past, and I've seen it work with Pietro, so I'm going to keep doing it.

Now, his family is less active, but here's how it's going with them:

Famiglia Perta: They have made leaps and bounds of progress, and I am super happy about it. They really want to come to Church, and they are going to do their best. The problem is they live far away, and the wife works in the mornings, but I know that if they can pray, and with enough faith, they can make it.

Let's see, with our other less-active, Luigi, we have him reading in the Book of Mormon, and we read it with him this last time. We kinda drilled how important it was to read and pray to God to get the answer, and to find the answers to his doubts through the Book. He said he would, and I have faith he will. From what I understand, he used to not let the missionaries in, so things can change.

When all is said and done, things are going pretty well here in Foggia. A good amount of finding, but we're going to be checking up on the members we talked to for the referrals, and then changing some things regarding our finding methods. I'm also going to be talking to some of our English course students, and seeing if they would have interest.

Well, there we go. Tell Marcus to get an iPad. It's better in the long run.

Well, I had to stay home today to go to the dentist for a tooth that is a problem so I had the opportunity to do an IM/email thing that most parents of missionaries know about. It's only the third time or so we've done it because of the time difference. Here is the conversation:

Dad: Hey, if we buy you a hair cutting shaver from AmazonUK will it have the right power? Then you and your companion could cut each other's hair and save money.  Where would we send it? The Mission Home or your address? Let me know what you think of that idea.

Anziano Eads: We had to get some stuff done in the morning that took our time. We've been helping a member move to a new house, and things worked out this way. Don't worry, I've got it handled.

And as for the idea of the hair things: NO!!!!

Dad: 5 to 8 inches of snow tomorrow. I miss my human snow plow.  Now I am going to buy a new snow blower this week.  Oh, we are going to skype you at Christmas on our new XBox1.  Mom's enjoying playing a couple of video games among other things with it.

Anziano Eads: I'm sorry I'm not there to be your slave anymore, and I've been saying that you need a snow blower for the last few years...granted it's because I'm lazy, but still. As for the Xbox One thing:

Oh and in response to your email questions:

As for why I need the money. It's not for anything emergency. The problem is that card readers are rare in Italy, and it's actually recommended that we only use cash. Also, there's mercatos (markets), and they have really good stuff for cheap. Also, I need to buy some clothes and stuff, because mine are too big. I'm down 40, count em, 40 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am jealous that you will be watching a Hobbit movie without me, and that it seems awesome. It's okay though, you are forgiven. Go, and sin no more. I am probably not going to upgrade. I haven't decided yet. A PS4 is in the future, but only for the next Kingdom Hearts. Video games don't seem so important anymore. 

I am aware of the disasters in Italy Dad, but thanks for caring. 

So, life's going well?

Dad:  Yeah, life is going good.  No major compliants. Mom's hurting (back and stuff) and its more difficult for her.  Kendra is okay. Coda is great though! Had to take him to the Vet for a ear infection and the Vet said he is not 56 as it normally seems, small dogs age more slowing about 5 years to a human year so he's only 35 going on 40 in March.  School is done this semester, yeah! So ready to be done by the time you get home, maybe before.  I will miss you at The Hobbit movie but we'll have the DVD for you when you get home. 40 lbs! 40 lbs! That is tremendous!!!!!!! Go buy some new clothes and soon!!!!! They look like they don't fit in your pictures.  Bishop Fausett asked about you at Tithing settlement.  Anyway, yeah, life is good and keeps going forward.  Always does, always will, even when the time comes to leave mortality. 

Anziano Eads: Thanks for the confidence regarding the PS4. Like I said, I'm not sure yet. the Wii U is a yes, but as for the others...who knows. I just don't see the need to upgrade. I've actually become tired in my mind of video games a little bit. They just take up so much time and the mission makes you realize there are more important things to do with ones life. 

Dad:  Often in life if we are content with what we have and it satisfies us, we don't have to use our hard earned money to upgrade to the latest and greatest. It's why we drive our cars until they die or are about to and then put a good chunk of money down on a new car (small payments).  Learned the hard way on that one over time. 

Anziano Eads: That's funny to hear you say that. You've changed a lot in life.  Guess I have too. 

Dad:  Did you like the SLC Temple Christmas Light pictures? 

Anziano Eads:  Yes, I did. Very much so. Thanks for those. I'll show them in my picture book.  As for Christmas: I'll probably call early in the morning if at all possible.

Dad: Anyway, I'll stop. Good to talk with you. Be safe, keep working hard but work and follow the Spirit as you do.  Love the people, and remember,::: HUG, HUG, HUG :::

I don't miss em that bad anymore, there are just times I would love to talk on the phone or Skype. What I miss the most about Nathan is how he always greeted me with a hug. Well, March 5th, 2015 there will be A LOT of hugging at the airport! His emails have sure changed form focusing on what he's done generally to now being very specific about his investigators and helping others.  It's a sign to me that he has changed from an inner focus to an outward focus on others and serving them and sharing ith them.  That for us, his parents, is the greatest Christmas present, and his subtle reminders for us to reach outward. 

November 25th 2013 Email Staying in Foggia for 6 More Weeks

Please note. We don't include EVERYTHING from Nathan's email as some are personal and made for communication between us, his parents and him or vice versa.

Well, here's my update on my week:

If I'm being honest, it was a bit of a week where things just did not seem to work out at first. We had a few appointments cancel, one investigator not answer the phone all week, and that got me a little bit frustrated. Anyways, on Monday, we went to the hospital to help out a friend of one of our members. He's been struggling with a recovery process from surgery, and we gave him a blessing. Guiseppe (the member) has told us that he's doing better. Nothing too special happened the next three days, minus cancelled appointments, and some recerca.

Things picked up on Friday, when we did a scambi with Anziano Peachy, and Anziano Carr. We had a few lessons, and we picked up some good potentials to meet with later as well. Saturday was good as well, as we taught a good lesson, and then provided some service to one of the members. He's moving into a new house, and we helped him tidy up a little bit.

So overall, not a bad week. Here' s a current update on our investigators:

Alessandra: Things are still rough for her, and she missed church again this week. I think the next lesson, which is tomorrow, I'm going to figure out if there's a way that she can make it, and if not, if there's a way we can get her daughters to the church. Right now that's my main focus, getting them to Church.

Pietro: Things are going well with Pietro, but he's not coming to church either. I think with him, we need to call his mother to make sure that they come. We called the father this week, and they didn't show, but when we call the mother, they happened to show up. I think I'll start doing that.

Antonio: We had a lesson with Antonio this week to discuss some things. He's been a bit of a hard one to handle, as he has some weird ideas, and his personality is very, very, very rough, but we've figured things out and we have realized that he just needs some time, as he wants to change. We're going to be moving forward with teaching him, and praying earnestly that things work out.

Besides that, everything is fine. I'm glad that I get to stay in Foggia another transfer. I feel that miracles are going to happen this transfer, and that we're going to see some amazing things come out of this city. I don't know exactly what's going to happen, and I don't think I ever will, but I just have a feeling that this time, things are going to be really good. We're really going to see some mighty miracles this time around.

Weekly Email for November 17th 2013

Boun Giorno! Or, at least it will be when you wake up and read this email.

Mom first (sorry Dad, she's way more important than you....JK):

Yeah, we both know that I'm a bit of a slow learner at times, or I forget the lessons I was taught, and have to experience it again just to be safe. But, my hair is growing back, I went from a level one buzz, to a level 2 buzz. It's fantastic, because it's been cold, and rainy this entire week!

GOOOOOOOOOO SEATTLE!!!! That's all I've got to say on that front.

As for the Christmas thing: It wasn't a defeat...it was a strategic retreat for the benefit of the army. I'm happy that everything is going good for you guys, that you've got your Christmas items and that.....GASP! MOM, YOU WENT TO HOBBY LOBBY?????? No, that's not true...THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

COOKIES!

I'm sorry the dessert didn't turn out exactly right, but I'm sure it was good. Of that I have no doubt. As for piano: YOU CAN DO IT! If there's anyone I know who can it's you.

I would've loved that (the JFK thing). GO HISTORY!!!!

Dad:

As I mentioned to Mom about the Christmas thing: you can go and read it.

The guys hassled you that you didn't go on the Turkey Shoot? Good on them, you should've gone. I wanted to go, but it was always work, work, work for me. Now its paper, paper, paper for you. Next year  after I get home, we'll go if I'm not busy with school or something.

Sorry you've been busy this week. Next semester with only one class will be better for you. That way you can relax more, and enjoy the limited time you have until I come home and make your life busy again! (We both know it's going to happen)

Tell Kim that I will never buzz again! LONGISH HAIR FOREVER!!!!! and that I say hi. And he's awesome.

I won the Grumpy Award? No, you still beat me out on that one. Hair's growing back fine. In another week or two it'll be normal again.

Okay combined answers to questions:

This week was good. We had four investigators at church, which was a personal record this transfer, but our mother and her family missed out. They had a funeral, so I'm not upset, next week.

Honestly, I was a little sick with a cold this week, but I made sure to get out there and do the work as best as I could. I took ibuprofen, and vitamin C, and that helped a lot. I am also grateful for the priesthood. Blessings rock!

We ressurected an ex-investigator from the Area Book. He is extremely into his beliefs, but I'm not worried about it. If nothing else, we can bless his life by teaching him a little more about Christ, and what he's done for us.

Our current investigators are good. The mother and her family, and a male investigator are doing great, they're my biggest hope right now. Our two other investigators, two men, the two who had baptismal dates, came to church, and we have an appointment with them on Friday. Hopefully they make it, I'm praying for it.

The other two investigators were hard to meet with last week. We're going to try and do so this week.

Besides that, it's been a normal week.

Thanks for everything you guys do. Keep praying, reading the scriptures, and doing everything in your lives to bring blessings to you and every one you come in contact with! I love all of you, and pray for you every night...if I remember.

Weekly Email November 11th 2013; A Penny Saved is a Penny Buzzed

This one is going to Kendra too, because I've got a story and a picture that describes what has happened. So, this is a family email, and I hope you all get a laugh out of it (yes, it can go on the blog).

Well, this goes along with Dad's comment about my hair (Jay mentioned in his Zone Conference pictures that it was getting long for a missionary).  Yes it was rather long, so I decided to cut it. But, since I wanted to be frugal, and save 8 or 12 euro (getting a haircut is expensive here!), I decided to cut it myself. Well, it was going well, and then I accidentally buzzed a part of my hair. I missed the comb I was using, and it went to the crapper.

So, I had no choice. I have now buzzed my hair for the first time since I was 12. I have a picture to prove it. The bright side is that my hair grows fast, so in three to four weeks, I'll be back to a normal missionary cut.

Well, that's my funny story this week. Hope you all get a laugh.

Jay's noticed that Anziano Eads is the third missionary with a blog in the Rome, Italy Mission to try to be frugal and cut his own hair. The result is the same. A buzz cut.

Would've been nice to have known that Grandpa Eads' birthday was yesterday. Oh well, that was okay. I had a pretty good day yesterday.

80 missionaries unaccounted for (in the Philippines from the Typhoon)? Frick I hope that everything is okay with them, hopefully nothing too bad happens. Time to add them to my prayer list as well. Here's hoping.

I'm glad you enjoyed that email. No promises that I'll always be that detailed, but I'll try my best. I think things might go a little better if I do, and you may enjoy my emails a little more.

Okay as for me:

This week, compared to last was a little harder. With Zone Conference, and some other things as well, it just seemed to be a little hard to meet with people. So honestly, teaching wise, things weren't the best.

We had a really good lesson with our investigator and her family the other night, and let's just say that it was a night for miracles. We learned that he son has some problems with his throat, and that he can't hear too well, and that it just collided with her other problems, and she was feeling down.

We shared Mosiah 24 with the family, and they all loved it. Talking about how it applied to their situation, and then asking them to have the faith to move forward with faith in Christ and to continue to strengthen that faith was our challenge that night, and they accepted it. We then, by the inspiration of the Spirit, offered the son, a blessing. The Spirit was intense in that room, and frankly, it was so amazing.

The story ends like this: When we went back Friday, we asked how everything was going. While we couldn't stay for long, as the mother wasn't home, the daughter told us that ever since we gave the blessing, it was like the son was a new person, or a new son!

Through their faith, and their willingness to come closer to Christ, they saw a miracle, and it reinforced my own testimony, and I know that due to my listening and following the Spirit, that it was able to happen.(Please remove the names of these people before posting on the blog!).

Besides, that nothing new. I'm meeting with one of our other families who are investigating tonight, so I'll see how things are going with them. Besides that, I really don't have anything else to say. Things are going to be much better next week.

Well, first off: HEY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to be a little more detailed this week than I have been before, but with everything that's been going on, I think you'll enjoy that. I'll talk about the baptism last, save the best for then, am I right?

Well, let's start with the home front/questions. Tell Brother Pinnock and Dax I say hi, that I'm doing amazing, and all is well. Go Seattle. I'm telling you, they'll make it this year, I'm pretty dang sure! If they do, YES!!!!!!!

Christmas songs before Thanksgiving....tsk tsk tsk. The missionaries out here try to do that, and it's not working. I'm not letting them get away with it, neither is my district leader. We get along really well.

Yes, I will buy a Christmas ornament, believe you me.

Glad that Dad's been having fun with observing. I'm sorry for all the health problems you both have.  Things will work out, that I promise you.

Sorry that you've been waking up so much lately Mom. I hope everything is going okay. But what's this about Netflix? I thought we got rid of that...

Anyways, as for Grandma: just email me when her time comes and let me know. I'll write a little eulogy and send it home at the next P-Day, or whenever I can. When you see her, tell her I love her.

Here is how my week went:

Anziano McIntyre and I have really gone out for the referrals, as both of us feel there is something to be had in that part of the work here in Foggia, and we visited two of our families here, and shared the story of Alma and Amulek when Alma first goes to Ammonihah. I really like sharing this story with the members, as it applies to missionary work perfectly.

At first, Alma is rejected because he is a stranger and only one man, one testimony. Like Alma, we, the missionaries, are strangers to these people, we are only one voice, and they, not recalling how important our message is for them, reject us, turn us away. But, persistent beings that we are, we return, to try again.

But this time, we have some help. Like Alma, who found a friend in Amulek, we too have friends who can help us out. The ward members have lived out here for a long time, they have a reputation, like Amulek, and they know the people who are willing and ready for our help, for the message of the Lord. And, as in the story, with another voice, another witness, "the people began to be astonished" and they are more willing to listen to our message.

Anyways, it's worked out really well. Our families are praying and trying to find others to help out, that we can go and visit. I really like that. We also did splits with the ward missionaries, which was enjoyable. It was good member-missionary work this week.

As for the work with our investigators, we have had some problem meeting with two of them, and they were the two with a baptismal date, so we've decided to hold off on that for a bit, until they start keeping appointments. We also feel that they need to have a stronger testimony of the BOM, and Joseph Smith.

We had a really good lesson with one of our investigators and her family on the Plan of Salvation. She's has been taking the lessons since January, and we have decided to reteach her and the family the lessons. The only problem is that, while she speaks and understands Italian, she still reads better in her native Polish. We've ordered the opuscoli in Polish to help with that, as she already has a BOM in Polish.

We've also have been trying to get an appointment with a referral, but that's been hard. It was actually a miracle, because he showed up to church yesterday. That was a blessing, it really was, and after teaching the Restoration, we have a return appointment. I have a really good feeling about this.

As for Sunday, normal stuff. Church, pranzo, correlation, appointment, home, bed. Typical Sunday.

As for celebrating the holidays, no, we don't celebrate them, not really. There's a bunch of holidays that are coming up that are going to make the work a little bit harder, if I understand correctly, but I'm okay with that. Not an issue for me. Of course I'll miss you come the holidays.

Can't wait to see you guys on Christmas either. I'm really hoping I can stay here in Foggia for Christmas. I like this city a lot, and I have a lot of hope for it and the church here.

Continue to pray for the investigators I told you about last week, and add Brother Mario Perta onto the list. He's the father of one of our investigators, and he has asked for the prayers to have discernment regarding the scriptures, and to help him know more about the scriptures, and to be determined to read them.

Okay, now for the creme-della-creme: the baptism.

What a way to end the week, with such a powerful experience, and such a beautiful event. It has gotten me pumped up for the rest of the transfer, and into the future. The Spirit was super strong, and all went perfectly well. This has truly been a change for everyone involved.

I really enjoyed doing the baptizing, but I felt the Spirit so much more at the confirmation. That's probably because I was paying more attention at that moment than at the baptism, but whatever. It was still awesome.

I don't know what to say. This has gotten me pumped up for the rest of the transfer, and the rest of my mission. I can say that I've finally hit my stride as a missionary, after 5 long transfers, and I know exactly what the Lord can have me do. I testify no one can fail when doing the work of the Lord.

I've had a lot of experiences lately in personal study, prayer and teaching, that have really opened up my eyes. I truly understand that charity is a gift that lasts forever, and I am seeing it become stronger in me, and in others. Obedience brings the Spirit, the Spirit bestows the gift of charity and with that, when we love others we cannot fail.

I wouldn't trade this experience for the world and everything in it right now. I don't know what's in store for my future in life in general, but with the things I'm learning out here in the field right now, I'll be able to handle them.

WOW!!!! It is SO AWESOME being the parents of a missionary in the field.  He teaches us so much every week of the simple truths of the Gospel that move the Lord's work forward.  Nathan's email this week moved us to tears and reminds us that our Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers, just in his time.

Weekly Email October 28th 2013 with Pictures

Don't worry too much about the Facebook thing. I honestly kinda expected that. I've always been a bit of a loner, so I'm not too surprised with this development (that not anyone looks at his Facebook page). Well, I'm shocked that it took this long to get my plaque up, in fact, I'm super offended. Okay, really, whatever on that one (Nathan is NOT offended).  Thanks for the update, I like that it looks really good. It has a picture of me, so it should.

Glad that people are staying up to date on my mission and how I'm doing. That's fantastic! Yes, yes, I am aware that it is the dog of my sister and Marcus, but seriously, we always have dogs or pets in the house.

The secret is out huh (Nathan and Kendra have always teased Lynda that she is the Wicked Witch of the West)? Well, there goes keeping that skeleton in the closet. But seriously, you should dress up like a witch for Halloween and hand out the candy. I'm sure the kids in the neighborhood would love that. Snow on Halloween? Only in Utah.

I miss your dolce (sweets).

Yeah...that may help a little bit (Lynda had the Spirit whisper to her to tell Nathan to begin thinking in Italian since when Lynda and I learned another language that is when we made are major gains). I do think of certain words in Italian now, and I can't remember them in english, but I still think, at least the majority of the time, in english. However, I will say that the Italian is slowly taking over my grammar.

Well, we have one baptism on Saturday, but the investigator was handed to the Sisters. And I'm doing the baptism (as in I'm dunking her in the water). Besides that, we had to move two to the 9th of next month, but I think they'll make it.

My favorite thing in the week is, I don't know, I really like English Course. It's fun to teach Italians English like we do in the MTC, so just conversation, and they really enjoy it. My class and I get along really well. Here's a story about that: MY bag from Mark is a little destroyed, and I've been keeping it up with tape and my bad sewing skills. Well some of my students decided to buy me a new bag. Wait until you see it. I got pictures.

Speaking of which, the pictures this week are from last transfer, so it's my last companion.

Weekly Email October 21st 2013

Hey guys!

First part of this letter is to Dad: WILL YOU STOP GETTING SICK?!?!?!?!

I have enough to worry about, and then my Dad tells me he's been getting sick. I leave and everything goes to pot! Really, I worry about you because I'm not around. Also, you don't have to worry about me. I'm fine. I'm still Nathan, still a lose cannon (kidding), and I'm still losing weight. It's definitely more controlled now though. One or two kili a week.

Okay, back to both, since I can just answer the questions together.

I'm glad that the Outback works out very well, and I'm glad that you want to go live near Bear Lake (?). It's a beautiful place, and I would love to visit you there. As for the ghost issue. No worries, weird stuff happens all the time with computers. It's probably nothing. If it happens again, call the GhostBusters. I'm sure they can help.

Okay so, my new companion is Anziano McIntrye. He is a really chill guy from Canada. Yup, I got a Canadian companion, which is pretty sweet. He's been out for a year now, same group as my trainer, so yeah. Like I said he's pretty chill. We'll get along great from what I can see.

Yes, I am happy and I am enjoying my life as a missionary. Sometimes it's hard, but there are moments when it's all worth it. I really love it when I can help people, even if I don't know what to say.

IF you want to help me, please pray for the following: Alessandra, Kingsley, Temple, Pietro, Rafaella, but especially Alessandra. She's been having hard times lately, and she reallly needs the strength of some prayers.

Also, Dad: I would say my langauge ability is a 6-7, some where in there. It's definitely improved. And as for my rating of myself as a missionary, I would say I'm a 8. Not quite to 100% obedience just yet, but I'm getting there.

I usually don't post our letters to Nathan but I think his mother's this week was very insightful and shows the love and devotion of a mother to her missionary son and how she feels about the gospel. It also explains some things in his letter.  

Dad and I went on a long drive yesterday to test out the new Outback.   It went very well.  Dad wants to be a principal in a wilderness area (well, he'll take a job anywhere but he'd love that for observing!).   I told him I was ok with bear lake.  Then the grand kids would say "let's go to grandmas, they live at bear lake and we could swim and boat and have super fun."   I don't want to live in Randolph.  Our bishop would be like my dad, old farmer John. This was all tongue and cheek in a way.   We saw a few hunters with dead deer in their trucks.   We also saw a ton of sheep.   Dads office has a ghost.  I was putting away towels and I heard a man talking in the office.  I ran to our room and got dad.  When he got there it had stopped.   Really freaky!!! Dad thinks it was his computer.  It sounded like a mans radio voice, so it could have been his computer.
So i have one request.  when you tell us about your baptisms, dont just say they were fine or great.  please give us a little detail.  Tell us about the program and who did what, even some of your feeling about the experience.   Tell us about your new companion and what he is like.   Are you happy?   Do you enjoy being a missionary?  Dad worries about you.   What can we do to help you?  In conference they asked members to pay for specific people.  Who would you like us to pray for?

I always feel like I should have more to say, but don't know what to tell you.  I don't want to bore you with things you don't want to know.   We really are just trying to go about our boring day-to-day life.   I think about you every day.   I hope you are doing your best to serve the people of Italy and give them the gift of the gospel.   It will bring such joy and peace to their life.   I know that it brings me great peace especially right now.   Pray, study and serve The Lord.   Love Mom :)

Nathan's Weekly Letter October 14th 2013

Hey Mom, and Dad

Sweet! Go Seattle! 

Car hunting huh? I guess that means that...oh yup, Dad got a new car, and he got rid of the pathfinder. I knew that was coming, still, it was kinda expected at some point I guess. I'll miss Red Dog and the adventures we had in that Pathfinder. 

Coda...still the same old stupid dog. I love him, and miss him. Can't wait to see what happens when I get home.

Week was good. No baptisms. That's in two weeks, but I'll be sure to get you all some pictures. I'll actually have a new companion this week.  Anz. Curzola is going to Olbia, Sardegna, and I'm getting Anziano McIntrye. It's interesting. Anyways. 

How am I losing weight? I don't eat as much, I work out, and the food is a whole heck of a lot healthier as well. It's really nice, the food tastes really good.

There's really nothing to see in Foggia. Because it got heavily bombed in WWII, a lot of the historic stuff isn't around anymore. If you want to see stuff you have to go out of the city. That's all. Yes, the tomatoes are so delicious, and I don't know about the watermelon, since they are now out of season.

Yeah! Missionary work in Primary for all of October! Sorry, that you miss me, but it's good that ya'll are talking about it. I'm glad that the Tadd's house is now occupied. I didn't even know they moved.

Yup, I'll be able to tell you when you watch Montabano that the subtitles are all wrong! It'll be great. Yes, actually, I am getting back to chattiness, but I'm still quiet. I'm naturally very quiet, until you get me around people I like. Then you can't get me to shut up!

Well, the next thing I want to do is train (a new missionary), and then maybe spend the rest of my mission in quiet solitude doing good works. So, yeah.

Best meal here in Italy I've had is Fried Chicken. It was super good.

To Mom:

So, I was going to do the combined email, but when I typed this one out it was rather long, so Mom, here's your personal email, and I'll send one to dad as well.

All right Mom, I will definitely write Kendra this week. Let her know, okay? For now, I'll just say that I'll be sure to give her comfort. I'll also write Marcus as well, to let him know that things will work out. While, yes, we are weird, I think he's used to it.

Drat! I can't believe that Seattle lost, oh well, not a problem. They're still leading, and they're still awesome, so I'm okay. Well, I would love to continue to hear about the great things that my team does each week, so yes, please continue to update me.

I'm glad that you are enjoying work. It's a good thing in life, makes things a lot easier. It snowed? What the heck is snow? All I know is rain, rain, rain and more rain. It just rains all the time out here. We just had a few storms in a row this week, including today, so yeah. Glad Dad had a good time.

Yes, you will get pics of the new zone and my comp, I just need time. I'll get them this week, and send them to you next week. We watched General Conference via the computer in the church, for the English speakers. I absolutely loved Presidents Eyring's talk in the Sunday session, and Elder Scott's. It was wonderful.

All our investigators are great, and all are progressing. I'll just tell you and Dad now: three have baptismal dates, and all will make it.

Hi Dad.

Glad to hear the observing was good. Sorry you got cold, but I can sympathise. Things have gotten a tad bit colder here as well. It rains quite a bit, and with the humidity, it can get cold. I've taken to wearing my long pajamas and night. You being tired is good? What?

I remember that we had some fun times with the Pathfinder with observing stuff (our adventure to rescue Red Dog 3 was fun).

Well that's good that you listened to all of Conference. I though for a minute that you would ignore it since you were out observing. Of course, I thought that you would always listen to conference at some point. Well, what were your favorite talks?

Thanks for that thought Dad, I really appreciate. I don't know why you needed to share that either, but thanks anyways. I really enjoyed that. Maybe you can send me one of your typical epistles next time.

On a side note, on the night of November 11-12th, 1940, the British Navy using an all airborne attack, first time in history, destroyed 1/2 of the Italian battleships/capital ships that were at anchor in the harbor.  The Japanese used this attack in their planning for Pearl Harbor.  Here is a link to Wikipedia. Weekly Email October 2nd 2013

Well, Nathan is in his glory being sarcastic (in some ways, in others he is sincere).

Hey Guys!

Well, I find it funny that I was right yet again! I love it when I can predict things really well. Well, here's hoping the government gets up and running again! Although I do find it hilarious that you could still sign up for Obamacare.

Zone conference was really good. It was combined with the Taranto zone, and so that was fun, because there's a huge group of missionaries from my MTC zone in the area! It was awesome to see everyone again and see how things were going.

At this Zone Conference, it was about obedience, and I just want to say, that I called it again! I knew it was going to be on obedience, and I was right. Anyways, that's not important. So, yeah it was obedience and it was good.

No, I haven't been sick yet, and my headaches have all but gone away. I still get some small ones from time to time, but that's a rare thing nowadays, so no issue for me. Still as healthy as a horse.

Hopefully I'll have some new shirts at least, because, yeah, these ones I have right now are way to baggy. So, until then, nope I haven't bought anything Italian yet. Don't worry, I'm going to fix that. There's a few things I'll get on my list. Wait! I did buy some ties. Basta though.

Honestly, I just notice the gelato place that we pass by everyday. I'll let you figure out why!

Sorry to hear about GMA. Here's hoping that things work out. I really hope they do.

Well, it's about time. Anyways, let me know how it goes, and if I can provide any moral support, because I'm really good at that. Believe me, I am. Dad's going to be leaving you alone all weekend?

Companion Letter to Mission President

Well over at the Waddoups Misison President Blog they post letters (without the names) of the missionaries. Today there was one of an Italian missionary serving in Foggia. Well, there is only Anziano Eads and his companion there. I hesitated to post this but thought I would since it shows what Anziano Eads' (Nathan's) companion is thinking and what they as companions are doing. My take away. As always, developing a plan, praying for the Lord's help and then acting with faith results in wonderful things.

This letter was on Sister Waddoups blog. It is from Nathan's companion(he mentions Foggia so that is the give away). I thought you might want to see it.

The majority of our missionaries are English speaking, but approximately 10% are from Italy.

questa settimana è andata molto bene. Abbiamo ricevuto molto aiuto nel trovare nuovi simpatizzanti sia dal corso d'inglese che dai membri. In particolare, volevo condividere con lei un episodio successo domenica. Io e il mio collega avevamo deciso di andare a fare ricerca in una via specifica di Foggia e avevamo iniziato fin dal giorno prima a pregare che il Signore mandasse lì le persone che avevano bisogno di noi. Così siamo andati e una famiglia ci ha accolti con gioia e ha accettato di ricevere le lezioni missionarie. La madre, Michela, è stata sempre religionsa, ora, però, è un po' in crisi. Vuole conoscere di più di ciò che abbiamo da dire riguardo a Cristo. Sono
contentissimo.

Weekly Email September 18th, 2013 with pictures of the Vatican

Lynda and I have noticed that of late, Nathan's emails have been shorter and he has shared he is too busy.  So we made an adjustment via the promptings of the Spirit of sending just one combined email to Nathan, and then only having him send one email back to us.  Here is his reply.


Hi Mom & Dad,

So this weekly combined email thing is going to be the best. I would try to do two separate emails, but I don't know if I'll have time for that anymore.

So Herriman High flooded? That's pretty awesome. Mom really does know her stuff. I just wished it had happened in winter so that the floor would've frozen over. Ice skating to class would've been fun, or dangerous...one of the two.

SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry Dad, but HA! We won, we won, we won! Don't worry, I still love you and I hope you  can still love me too. (But we still won!!!!).

So Marcus may be moving in huh? I thinks that's probably for the best and will be a very positive experience for him.  I wish I could help Mason in person, but I'll make sure to keep him in my prayers. Kendra will probably have that placed spotless. As for Zack and Amber, yeah, they are way to young to get married.

I will remind everyone that I know a BYU Cougarette, that her Dad is the Assistant Athletic Director of UVU, a wrestling coach who is protective and so thank you for the gift. I'll be sure to use it with the  other missionaries.

Okay Mom, good luck with the new job. I'm pretty sure you're going to love it, just from what you've told me. And Dad, I know things are going to be busy, but don't worry, I'm sure things will calm down. I wish that for you.

The Vatican visit was cool. Saw a lots of cool stuff, and some other things that I don't necessarily agree with, but still cool all the same. It was really fun in the Sistine Chapel. No pictures of that though, not allowed.

Foggia is a great city. We have three investigators with Baptismal Dates, with another two to have them really soon, and I know that they'll make it. Anziano Curzola is a really great guy. (meaning I'm the companion he goes home with when he finishes his mission next transfer).
